BREXIT: Fears for rural livelihoods

Has it occurred to our MP Anne-Marie Trevelyan that the reason more people are politically engaged is that most are deeply concerned at the turn being taken by Brexit, and that many in her Berwick constituency fear for their livelihoods in a resulting economic collapse (Northumberland Gazette, October 12)?

The Parliamentary democracy which she praises is entirely reliant on the first responsibility of MPs being to their constituents, supporting their wellbeing and concerns in Parliament and trying to resolve them.

Instead, a group of MPs in the Conservative Party seems to be taking advantage of its own weak Government to promote their personal libertarian beliefs ahead of the ‘national good’ by trying to force the country into a ‘hard Brexit’.

This week’s headlines read: ‘Hard Brexit ‘disaster’ for North farms’. To me, the evidence for this is clear.

With this in mind, this group of MPs appears not to be on the side of rural Britain.
