A bride-to-be has spoken of her relief after her wedding was saved by her boss following the closure of Longhirst Hall.

Samantha Whillis and partner Stephen Armstrong were due to wed at the venue on June 21.

But when the hall’s tenant management company, Hotel Lease (Number 3) Ltd, went into liquidation at the end of February, Samantha thought her worst nightmare had come true.

However, her boss David Whitehead has made her dreams come true again by putting together a wedding package at The Plough in Alnwick.

Samantha, 25, works at the Jolly Fisherman and Shoreline Cafe in Craster, both of which David owns.

And when he heard about her plight, he was only too happy to step in.

Samantha said: “It was my worst nightmare. When I found out about the closure I was absolutely heartbroken.

“Stephen and I had our hearts set on it. We fell in love with it as soon as we saw it.

“But I couldn’t thank David enough for what he has done.

“He is doing excatly what we were going to have at Longhirst Hall, but at the Plough.

“He is even doing the same menu for us.

“He has literally saved our day. We are just so grateful to him.

“We have heard absolutely nothing from the hotel or the administrators.

“We haven’t even had a letter from them. We’re trying to claim the money back that we had already spent.”

Samantha added that she had contacted other venues prior to David’s offer but a lot were already booked for her day.

David said: “I thought if there was something I could do then I would help as much as possible. We were in the early days of taking over the Plough so after hearing about what had happened, I pulled together a package which Samantha was over the moon with.”

Samantha and Stephen, 28, live in Longhoughton but they met on Facebook, and have been together for four years, after having their first date at the Plough.

Now they will have a service followed by reception in the B Lounge, on June 21.
