A NORTH East MEP is calling for Northumberland residents to join Fairtrade celebrations this weekend.
Festivities are being held in recognition of the declaration of the 1,000th Fairtrade Town.
Fiona Hall said: “The North East has 11 Fairtrade towns, including Alnwick, Hexham and Morpeth. People here are very supportive of the principle that producers should get a fair price for their goods. That goes for the farmer in Northumberland as much as for his counterpart in Nigeria.
“This weekend’s celebration is a good excuse to explore local shops and sample Fairtrade products.”
