Body found in river in Northumberland village

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: "At 8.30am this morning, police were informed a body had been seen in the river near Whitton Bank Road, in Rothbury. Emergency services have attended and are in the process of recovering the body of a woman.

"Inquiries will be carried out to establish the identity of the woman. These inquiries are at an early stage and there are no further details about the identity of the body at this stage."

Locals have reported a range of emergency service vehicles gathered in the village's Cow Haugh car park, while a police diving team has been spotted in the area.
