The bicycles, which were purchased at Amble firm Breeze Bikes, were presented by Mayor Jane Dargue, to PCSO’s Julie Wright and Kenneth Mouat last week.

The cycles will be used by the officers to make them more visible and improve engagement with the public. They will also be able to deal more quickly with anti-social behaviour in the area and be more discrete when travelling to certain crimes.

Coun Dargue said: “Community policing is something that has always been important to our town. It will be a very welcome sight to see police officers out and about on bikes as well as on foot. I am happy that the council has been able to help to facilitate this.”
