Reflecting on the shop’s 20th birthday, she said: “It is a tremendous achievement and tribute to the people who have worked so hard over the years.

“The shop is a good community in itself and for some people it is a social outlet.

“A lot of our customers come in on a daily basis and we thank everybody who has supported us over the years.”

The store stocks a range of items, including clothing, books, toys and homeware, and is supported by an army of around 50 volunteers, some of whom started when the outlet first opened its doors two decades ago.

“The volunteers are very generous with their time,” Helen added.

To celebrate the birthday, current and former members of the shop will be having a party in St James’ Church Centre on Monday night.

During the day, the store will have a special offer on DVDs, which will all be priced 50p.

Helen said that the shop is always on the lookout for more volunteers and anyone who is interested should contact the store.
