POLICE are appealing for information after a wooden hide was set on fire at Ellington Nature Reserve, causing around £15,000 of damage.
Five youths were seen in the area by witnesses at the time of the offence and police are keen to trace them. The blaze took place on Sunday at around 3.25pm.
Ashington police inspector Barrie Joisce said: “This appears to have been a mindless act of vandalism, causing extensive damage and depriving the community of a valuable and much-loved facility.
“This kind of criminal behaviour will not be tolerated and inquiries will continue to bring those responsible to account.”
Anyone with information should call police on 101 ext 69191 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
