A tourism champion who has helped to turn Kielder into ‘one of the best mountain-biking experiences in England’ is in the running to win a national award.
Alex MacLennan, recreation and public affairs manager for the Forestry Commission in the North East, is on the shortlist for Tourism Superstar 2016.
Run by VisitEngland, and supported by the Daily Mirror, it recognises the dedication and passion of those working in the tourism industry. The accolade is awarded to an individual who goes above and beyond the call of duty to ensure visitors to England have an unforgettable experience.
Alex has been named as Northumberland’s candidate and Lynn Turner, director of Kielder Water and Forest Park Development Trust, believes it is just reward for his efforts.
She said: “Alex works tirelessly to put forest adventure at the centre of what makes Northumberland a fantastic tourist destination.
“He has championed mountain biking at Kielder Water and Forest Park, putting in hundreds of hours of his own personal time and boundless energy to make Kielder one of the best mountain-biking experiences in England.”
The Daily Mirror will host a short film of all Tourism Superstar nominees on Mir ror.co.uk and people will be able to vote for their favourite in an online public vote from Saturday, January 16.
The winner will be announced during English Tourism Week in March.
