Bike ride to raise funds in memory of cycling fanatic

The next instalment of a popular bike ride will be in aid of the British Heart Foundation (BHF), in memory of a passionate cycling enthusiast.

The Wooler Wheel organisers have announced that the Borderlands Cycle Sportive on May 12 will be in honour of Leigh Robinson, from Alnwick.

Leigh, who died in November aged 45, was passionate about anything to do with cycling and had taken part in previous Wooler Wheel events.

The event – offering distances of 170km, 100km and 60km, plus a Junior event for accompanied under 16s of 30km – gives riders views of the beautiful countryside in north Northumberland and the Scottish Borders.

Dan McNally, from the BHF, said; “We are very grateful to be chosen. BHF funds hundreds of research projects and we have placed more than 75 life-saving defibrillators across Northumberland.”
