RNLI volunteers in Berwick called out to help a yacht which was caught on lobster pot ropes
The volunteers arrived on the scene, approximately one mile north of Berwick Lighthouse, and discovered that lobster pit ropes had caught around the yacht’s rudder, with the skipper unable to free it.
It was determined that the inshore lightboat (ILB) would also be required to assist and both boats worked together to free the yacht.
A casualty care trained crew was placed aboard the yacht to monitor a person who was suffering from the effects of seasickness.
RNLI crews towed the casualty vessel back to Berwick Dock after it was deemed that steering problems and the danger of the yacht being blown onto the rocks was a potential risk.
