“I hope that the sculptures will bring pleasure to the people of Berwick and visitors to the town for years to come.”

The bear weighs about a tonne and is made from reclaimed walnut and is on an oak base. Army cadets helped move it into place.

Sculptor David Gross came well prepared with a purpose-built trestle table and a variety of rollers to ensure a smooth transition from truck to site. It echoes the Berwick coat of arms with an elm tree planted behind it.

The official unveiling of the sculptures in Coronation Park and the bear will take place on April 20 with MP Anne Marie Trevelyan and various councillors attending as well as some of the children who designed the sculptures, some of the cadets who helped install the sculptures and Friends of Castle Parks.
