Belford off bottom with win over neighbours

Amble and Belford both picked up wins in the North Northumberland League Division 1 on Saturday, with Embleton and Springhill recording big wins in Division 2.

TWEEDMOUTH HARROW 2

AMBLE ST CUTHBERT 5

After the clash of the top two teams in the Division it was the visitors who took over top spot at the final whistle.

A single goal from Amble separated the teams at the break and although Harrow netted twice through Johnny Blyth and Martin Tait a hat-trick from Liam Ramsay plus two from Reece Ramsay gave St Cuthbert a good win .

Belford moved above Lowick and away from the foot of the table following this win.

At half time the game was goaless but in the second half two Kevin Greshon goals and a Archie Little strike gave Belford the win with a Gary Fairbairn strike proving to be just a consolation for the hosts.

DIVISION TWO

WOOLER 1

This was an evenly contested game throughout with neither side able to make a breakthrough before half time .

The second half was also closely contested but a Richard Stanwix goal for Craster was matched by Kevin Cummings for Wooler to see the points shared at the final whistle.

Embleton continue to head the Division following a comfortable win over the visitors.

In the first half Grant Sharp netted for Highfields but Embleton scored three times to lead at the break.

They kept up the pressure after half time and netted five more before the final whistle.

A Johnny Colley hat trick, two from Ryan Taylor plus single strikes from Joe Sleightholm, Chris Chisholm and Phil Grey made up the Embleton total .

Ashington continue to struggle at the foot of the table following another heavy defeat.

Aaron Wright netted a consolation goal for the visitors but hat tricks from Daniel Virtue and Connor Davidson plus a Craig Dixon goal secured the win that moved Springhill up to second spot in the table .
