Formed in 2011, the Castalian Quartet is rapidly emerging as an exciting voice on the international chamber music scene with concerts in Washington D, New York, Montreal, Vienna and Paris featuring in this season.
The three string quartets on offer are Mozart’s Quartet in C, K465 is known as the ‘Dissonance’ because of discords in the highly original opening; Beethoven’s second op.59 quartet, dedicated to Count Razumovsky and Fauré who was in the last year of his life when he composed his one and only string quartet.
This is an enigmatic but extremely beautiful piece, full of understated French charm.
This concert will be held on Sunday, starting at 3pm.
