Prestigious company Isaac Walton Tailoring, which has been based in Newcastle since the 19th century, is looking for another measurer to visit estates all over the country in order to measure the gamekeepers and ghillies for their suits.

The firm is looking for an extra fitter due to a busy few years, but owner Michele Shield says that ‘it’s proving difficult to capture that right person’.

“It’s a wonderful job with lovely customers,” she said. “I want somebody who is able to measure a client for a suit, but also someone with some tenacity.”

The role is being advertised via Jobcentre Plus – proving that it’s not all hospitality and retail jobs on offer – but Michele added: “It would also be nice to capture someone in a job who’s not satisfied or who may have done measuring in the past and wants to use these skills again.”

The 130-year-old company’s mission statement says: ‘We have built a business on traditional values, delivering the highest quality clothing to our customers.

‘We regard every customer as unique and our remit is to discover each and every requirement before producing a bespoke piece that you will value for years to come’.

This ethos, coupled with the fact that the clients the successful candidate will be dealing with are often quite traditional as well, means that the right character is needed too – ‘they don’t want ego, they want someone who’s laid-back, a confident, gentle person’, Michele added.

Other traits would be conscientiousness, professionalism, self-organisation and someone who cares.
