Beadnell WI’s November meeting began on a medical note. President Pat Brand was pleased to greet Tony Brown, practice manager of Bondgate Practice, together with visitors from the village and neighbouring institutes.

Tony gave a comprehensive update on recent developments in our local NHS, setting them within the context of the national situation. Rural practices have their own particular needs, which require different approaches.

His presentation led to a lively question and answer discussion, with people quoting their own anecdotal evidence of experiences.

The competition had asked us to identify medical developments we would like to see in the future. It was particularly pleasing that Tony considered the suggestions aloud and explained what he found helpful in each of them. The session gave us all thoughts to take home.

Competition points went to Pat, Jenny, Angela and Denise.

Pat broke the speed record for disseminating news and information. Last month’s vote, on possible alteration of meeting times in the winter months, resulted in a definite decision to continue with Thursday evenings.

Having had a most enjoyable meal recently at The Horseshoes in Rennington, we are now looking forward to December’s Christmas lunch at the Salt Water Cafe in Beadnell. Members were asked to choose their menus prior to the event.

Our October Gifts Galore day was a very pleasant occasion. Catherine, Jan and all of their helpers were warmly congratulated on their hard work and their raising of £520 for the hall’s renovation fund.

Friday, December 2, will see us serving up soup to warm visitors to the switch-on of Beadnell’s Christmas lights, while our Christmas party will be held on December 8.
