Members of Beadnell WI were in party mode for June’s meeting. We held a short business meeting, which was attended by our WIA Moira Bengston.

Her opening message was upbeat as she gave us some reasons to chuckle, and emphasised the fact that belonging to a WI was like having access to many friendly and helpful sisters.

That was certainly borne out by the group of members who got together to work on our party to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.

They had ensured that our hall looked patriotically festive and inviting.

Nancy Wardropper prepared a wonderful buffet of coronation chicken, ham and varied salads, which was praised by everyone.

The team of desert makers excelled themselves, to the extent that our waistlines were under severe threat.

We had great fun chatting, whilst answering a quiz on the Royal family, devised by Doreen Godfrey.

Without there having been any official dress code, many members had arrived wearing clothing and jewellery based on red, white and blue, or regal purple.

In some cases the outfits were topped off by royal headgear, with Wendy wearing a spectacular crown, Jan a tiara and Jenny her second best crown because she had loaned her real one to the Queen.

We finished with a loyal toast and the singing of happy birthday to her majesty.

Our sincere thanks to all those who worked so hard to make it a great royal celebration. It’s a pity the Queen missed it.

Next month Ian Clayton will talk to us about the Seahouses Lifeboat and the competition is anything connected to the sea, in any medium.

In July the lunch club will visit Robson’s in Craster.
