Wonderful aromas and tastes of Indian food marked the April meeting of Beadnell WI.

Mary Manners, a chef at Grovewood House, demonstrated the making of a vegetable curry and two different meat dishes. In addition, she prepared a braised rice dish, which cooked in the oven while she worked.

With her mother there as a very able assistant, Mary managed to intersperse her presentation with an insight into the task of providing full meals and snacks every day for more than 20 people. A very taxing, but rewarding occupation. We certainly enjoyed the products of her expertise at supper time.

The i newsletter cut through the noise

During the business section of the evening, members heard of an invitation to a quiz at Howick, together with other events organised by Cresswell House.

We learnt that Lynne Angus is to resign from her post as a hall trustee after many years of dedicated work on our behalf. Members thanked her very much for all that she has done for the Institute.

Lunch club members visited The Old Boat House for an enjoyable lunch on Good Friday. Their next venue will be the Pack Horse at Ellingham. A visit to the BBC studios had also proved popular.

A defibrillator was recently fitted outside the Institute Hall. Three of our members trained to use it at the open session on March 12, a valuable skill to acquire.

Lynne Angus won the raffle and the competition for an Indian souvenir was won by Angela, with Pat and Lynne as runners-up.
