An Alnwick restaurant is set to open its new extension and gallery project just in time for Christmas.

Jon Smith and Emmy Parker took over the former Gate Gallery premises on Bondgate Within.

Jon’s family has run the Art House restaurant, next door, and so the couple decided to expand the business.

Numerous renovations have taken place, including removing a false ceiling at the back of the property to reveal a vaulted ceiling with roof lights.

The plan is to turn the downstairs area into a gallery and shop and create the upstairs section into a bar and lounge, leading in to the current restaurant.

Jon, 23, said: “I first started working at the Art House when I was 15 and it’s just gone on from there.

“My family had never had a restaurant before but we threw ourselves in at the deep end.

“There have been ups and downs and for the last three years I have been running it. We just thought we’d take it to the next stage and bought the building next door.”

Emmy, 21, added: “We wanted to do something a bit different and revive Alnwick a bit and put a bit of life back into the town.

“It’s not about how much it costs, we are doing it for the love of it.”
