Now in their fifth year, the awards recognise council tenants who have helped other residents to enjoy life or who have made a difference to others.

There are five categories this year: Good Neighbour; Getting Involved; Best Community Group; Garden of the Year; and Young Person of the Year.

You can either nominate another tenant, a community group or yourself, but you must do so before the Friday, February 26, closing date. All entries will be judged by a panel of tenants.

Coun Allan Hepple, the county council’s cabinet member for housing, said: “There are so many unsung heroes across Northumberland who give up their own time to help others.

“The awards are a great way of celebrating all of the good work that goes on in our communities which would otherwise go unnoticed. If you know a tenant or a group who you think has made a difference in their community, please nominate them and make sure they get the recognition they deserve.”

Applications forms are available from Aileen Barrass on 01670 623492, local housing officers or by calling 01670 542424.
