Whittingham CofE Primary School has enjoyed sporting success after receiving a prestigious award.
It is one of the few small primaries to receive a Silver Sainsbury’s School Games Award, which recognises the wide variety of sports offered during curriculum time and also after school, including clubs and team games organised with other local schools.
Headteacher Belinda Athey said: “We are pleased to gain the recognition for the provision we offer, despite our size, enabling us to prepare our children for a healthy lifestyle and for the sporting provision which they will experience at the Duchess’s Community High School.
“We will further develop this in the coming year with the building of a specialist sports facility, an outdoor gym equipment trail and specialist long jump facility which has been funded with the huge support of our local councillor, Steven Bridgett, and also a large donation from Whittingham Church House Fund.”
This facility should be open to the school and the wider community by the end of this year.
