Arts, music and sport events for first Northumberland Day

Craster Art Club is holding an exhibition of its members’ works in oils, acrylics, pastels, watercolours and mixed media at Howick Village Hall, running from Saturday, May 27, to Monday, May 29.
The Howick Coastal Choir will be performing a two-hour concert in the Earl Grey Tea Rooms at Howick Hall on the evening of Sunday, May 28. The concert will celebrate Northumberland Day through song, fiddle playing and the poetry of Noel Hodgson. Tickets on 01665 577285.

When it comes to sport, SMILE Through Sport – a not-for-profit organisation founded by Paralympian Stephen Miller MBE – is arranging two open-to-all, inclusive Northumberland Day taster events, to encourage more people with disabilities and mental-health conditions to get involved with sport.
The first is at Willowburn Leisure Centre in Alnwick, from 10am to noon on Tuesday, May 23, and will have Stephen attending as a special guest. Here and at the second taster event, at Blyth Sporting Club, on Saturday, May 27, also 10am to noon, those attending are encouraged to dress in red and yellow.
National Trust Wallington is encouraging people to get involved in a sport of a different kind, as it links the opening of its new Dragon Cycle Trail in with the Northumberland Day celebrations. Red and yellow colours are again encouraged as cyclists explore two new trails.
