Fusion, a group of textile artists based in the North East, will be exhibiting members’ work from Saturday.

The title for the show is Connections and, as is often the case, the word is open to a wide variety of interpretations.

The group formed some 17 years ago with the coming together of about a dozen women, who have developed their artistic skills using the medium of fabric and thread.

Initially the idea was to get together at least once a year to hire a specialist tutor for a weekend to enable them to extend their skills. Their meetings gradually increased to a frequency of four to six weeks in order to show ongoing work, share skills or discuss plans for exhibiting work.

Previous venues in which their work has been shown include the DLI Museum and Art Gallery, the Oriental Museum, and the Botanic Gardens in Durham, among many others.

Fusion member Victoria MacLeod said: “Connections may be as solid as bolting two pieces of metal together, or as nebulous as the connections of memories evoked by places or memorabilia.”

The exhibition will start on Saturday and will run until Friday, May 5, at the gallery.
