CALLING all artists – would you like to see your work promoting one of Northumberland’s most popular events?

Today the Gazette launches a search to find the official poster artist for Alnmouth Arts Festival 2012, whose winning design will be used to advertise the annual extravaganza to a national audience.

As media partner, we’ve teamed up with the event’s organisers to invite all creative spirits over the age of 16 to submit their entries, which will go before a panel of judges in October.

The competition is open to artists, either individuals or groups, using any art form.

The winning image will then be turned into a full-colour poster to advertise the festival, which this year attracted over 2,000 people to the seaside village for a swathe of exhibitions and arty activities.

And it will also be used on flyers, the festival website and other promotional materials in the run-up to the summer showcase.

The winner will also be invited to exhibit at the Festival itself without charge, where there will be opportunities to promote their work and sell copies of their image.

Organiser Avril Scott said: “Since we started promoting the poster artist as part of our media and publicity campaign two festivals ago, the original poster art work has been sold during the festival. This year, the poster artist – Helen Stuart – also sold limited edition prints of her image.

“While there are no strict criteria, the winning image is likely to be readily identifiable with Alnmouth and have a portrait orientation. As it is a poster and therefore the brand image for the 2012 festival, it will also need to be eye-catching.

“It is also likely to be in keeping with previous poster images to give a message of continuity.

“In keeping with the ethos of the festival, the winning artist is likely to reside somewhere between the Tyne and the Tweed.”

To enter the competition, complete the entry form in this week’s paper and send it in an envelope marked AAF Poster Competition to the Northumberland Gazette, 32 Bondgate Without, Alnwick, Northumberland NE66 1PN, together with a copy of your chosen image.

The final date for entries is Thursday, October 13, and the winner will be announced in the Gazette on Thursday, October 27.
