The Year 3 Falcons at St Michael’s CofE First School, Alnwick, were treated to a day at the seaside last Thursday.
But they were not there making sandcastles; they were out and about investigating art with local artist Katherine Renton.
The youngsters were able to view her exhibition of artworks inspired by the sea before Katherine explained her techniques and how she was inspired by the sea having grown up on the coast.
The children found many other pieces of art in Newbiggin, including the famous couple sculpture, and they also created their own art in the Maritime Museum. The visit marked the beginning of the school’s art week with Katherine as artist in residence, a flagship event in the calendar part of an ongoing focus as an Artsmark Gold school.
