The Bailiffgate Museum in Alnwick will be showcasing printmaking and film by the award-winningNorthumberland-based artist and Channel swimmer, Frances Anderson.

Having swum the Channel in 2008 and the Gibraltar Strait in 2015 Anderson finds herself beguiled and enchanted by the complex rhythms of the water and waves, noticing details only revealed by daily engagement and immersion.

She is interested not only in images but also in the feelings provoked by the experience – the marks that water can leave physically, emotionally and sensorially.

Frances Anderson works across a range of disciplines including printmaking, photography and film. Her work is exhibited nationally and internationally.

The exhibition will also include documentary material and film relating to the swims themselves, offering the viewer a unique insight into long distance endurance swimming.

A talk about the swims will be held on Tuesday, May 31, at 7.30pm alongside the Gibraltar Strait Swim film and an opportunity to ask questions. An artist talk will also be held on Sunday, June 19, at 10am, looking at the work and the process of printmaking and a chance to try out a printing process.
