The court heard that the five offences all took place between September 8 and 24, last year.

During that time, Fawcett attempted a knifepoint robbery at Hyare News, on Park Road, Wallsend, on September 21.

There was also four other counts of theft from the person.

Speaking after the case, police were satisfied with the sentence given and getting the ‘dangerous’ Fawcett off the streets.

Detective Sergeant Jill Hall, of Northern Area Command at Northumbria Police, said: “Fawcett is undoubtedly a dangerous man who readily uses a knife to threaten his victims.

“We are satisfied with the sentence handed down by the court.

“By taking this man off our streets it will make North Tyneside a safer place.”
