Armed police have swooped on a north Northumberland village this evening (Saturday).

Details are scarce but locals have reported seeing officers with guns running through gardens at Percy Road.

Several ambulances were said to be in attendance and the Northumbria force's helicopter was also in use.

A Northumbria Police spokesman confirmed that firearms officers were in the village and said: "There was an incident ongoing earlier on in Shilbottle. It has been resolved and we are investigating the circumstances."

He added: "There are no concerns and no threat to the public."

Residents in the village reported that a man was led from a house on Percy Road.

Roads into the village are believed to have been closed while the incident was ongoing.
