Application to support hall's upkeep given the green light

Following amendments to the original bid, planning permission was sought for the demolition of a 1960s extension, construction of a replacement extension and three new holiday let/staff accommodation units.

Changes to the summerhouse, use of the quarry for deliveries and the change of use to a wedding venue no longer formed part of the application.

Edlingham Parish Council had raised concerns, alongside 30 objections, primarily on road-safety grounds, although 10 letters of support had also been submitted.

Hall owner, Helen Ruff, explained that the changes would improve the hall’s look by removing an ugly 1960s extension while the holiday lets would contribute to the income needed to run and maintain such a historic property.

The only real concern expressed by members was if an attempt was made to change the three units into permanent homes in the future, but this would not be possible under current planning policies.
