An application has been submitted for the repair of the southern boundary wall around the grounds of Ford Castle.
The bid seeks listed building consent for structural repairs to the wall including works to loose crenellations, vegetation removal, wall repointing and rebuilding as necessary.
A heritage, design and access statement explains that ‘the wall appears to be in poor condition and subject to various defects’.
‘It is however, unclear as to whether the wall is subject to ongoing structural movement or merely requires isolated repairs due to the age and nature of the structure’.
Further 3D laser scans are to be taken in December to assess whether the wall is moving. Any issues will become apparent upon review of this scan.
