APPEARANCES: Shops not the main concern

I write in response to the article about 'garish' shops in Wooler, (Northumberland Gazette, August 24).

Yes, the two shops in Wooler critiqued are different, but isn’t it nice to have a change instead of black or brown?

They are clean and tidy, not lurid colours, and more importantly – occupied.

We should be more concerned about the empty shops in the High Street, also the state of Ferguson’s Yard in the Peth. Being on one of the main routes into the town, it must give visitors a very bad impression.

After all, first impressions are the lasting ones.
