Appeal to find owner of memorial cross
Rothbury councillor Steven Bridgett said: “A memorial was placed within the outer bank of the hill fort at Lordenshaws, without the permission of the county council, Northumberland National Park Authority, Northumberland Estates and Historic England. Without obtaining Scheduled Ancient Monument Consent (SAMC), it is an unauthorised structure and requires removal.
“These kinds of permanent memorials are unlikely to obtain SAMC owing to the setting of a precedent for others of this type. It is a sensitive matter, but a decision was taken to remove it.
