Police are searching for missing 73-year-old Alexander Nicol.

Farmers are being asked to help in the ongoing search for a missing pensioner.

Alexander Nicol, 73, was reported missing when he failed to return to his home address in Jesmond on the evening of Friday, January 25.

That morning he had got on the X18 bus from the Regent Centre in Gosforth, destined for Berwick.

He got off the bus at Alnmouth and was last seen on Friday, January 25, around 4.45pm, as he walked from Hipsburn towards Lesbury.

Officers have made extensive searches of countryside around Alnmouth and Lesbury and are now asking farmers, gamekeepers and landowners to keep an eye open for him, especially in outbuildings.

Superintendent Paul Orchard said: “The primary focus of our search for Mr Nichol is the countryside around Lesbury. The day Mr Nichol went missing was very cold, with a chill wind and flurries of snow and sleet. If he was walking in the open countryside he may well have sought shelter wherever he could, either in a building or just in a sheltered spot.”
