An appeal has been lodged after plans to demolish the former Ryecroft Hotel in Wooler to build flats were refused by Northumberland County Council.

Commercial First, a funding bank, repossessed the property after the business failed and went into administration due to the tough economic climate.

It first submitted an application to knock down the hotel and replace it with an apartment block in 2013, but this was subsequently amended and resubmitted the following year as a two-storey development of 12 flats across two buildings.

An appeal has now been lodged with the Planning Inspectorate with comments due by Tuesday, February 23.
