Team members at the Wilkinson store, in Lagny Street, Alnwick, recently hosted a charity ball, raising over £500 for the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) and the Joseph Foote Foundation, in memory of a work colleague’s son, Matt Philips, who sadly passed away.
Held at The Plough in Alnwick, team member, Colette Barker, organised the evening’s entertainment with the help of a regular customer, Louis Denny, who hosted the disco and sang a few songs to get everyone in the party spirit.
Funds were raised through ticket sales to family members, along with a raffle to win a selection of prizes, including hampers and a dining set.
To mark the store’s first anniversary, team members wanted to do something worthwhile and chose to fund-raise for the Joseph Foote Foundation, in memory of Matt Philips, son of their colleague Vicky Skelton, who passed away in February 2011 aged five, after suffering from a brain tumour.
The foundation supports vital research into brain tumour treatments.
Vicky said: “It was a great event and a lot of money was raised. I would like to thank the team for organising the event and helping me to celebrate the memories I have of Matt.”
