Amble Harbour Village marks its first birthday

The £2.5million Harbour Village hosts 15 independently-run retail pods selling a range of products, as well as the Northumberland Seafood Centre, which sells fresh, locally-caught fish and shellfish and hosts cooking demonstrations.

The ambitious development opened in late March 2015 and harbour village co-ordinator Sarah Dunne said it has been a successful year.

“It has gone really well,” she said. “We have had some great feedback and we really hope that we can build on what has been a great start.”

The birthday celebrations take place on Monday. There will be a cake made by the town’s Farm Bakery, as well as a cup-cake giveaway for the first customers of the day. A face-painter will also be present.

The birthday celebrations come at the end of a busy Easter programme at the Harbour Village. On Good Friday, there will be fish sales in the Seafood Centre from noon to 4pm, while on Saturday, there will be fish sales and a cooking demonstration by Martin Charlton, of the town’s Old Boathouse.

Northumberland Inshore Fisheries & Conservation Authority (NIFCA) will also be on hand to talk through varieties of fish and inform on Northumberland Coastline Conservation. On Easter Sunday and Monday, a farmers’ market will be staged in the Seafood Centre.
