Amble enters contest for best high street

The Friendliest Port has enjoyed previous success in the competition, after it won the Coastal Community category in 2015.

Now, the seaside town has put its name forward again, as it enters the battle to be crowned Britain’s Champion high street.

The coastal resort has experienced an upturn in fortunes in recent years, including the opening of the Harbour Village and Northumberland Seafood Centre.

The town boasts a traditional high street with a mix of independent shops and a growing culinary scene.

The Great British High Street Awards 2018, which are being run by the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government, sponsored by Visa and backed by other partners, recognise and celebrate local achievements on the high streets and support the communities in which we live and work.

High Streets Minister Jake Berry MP said: “The Great British High Streets competition this year will celebrate the creativity of the many businesses in the UK which are providing the shops and services so vital to our economy.

“The previous Awards were hugely successful, proving the Great British public really cares about the centres of their cities, towns and villages. I’d urge everyone to get involved in this important competition.”
