Alnwick Young Farmers to host this year's county rally

Alnwick Young Farmers' Club is hosting this year's Northumberland YFC County Rally '“ and the group is running a children's competition to design the front cover of the programme.

The rally will be staged at Park Farm, at the town’s Hulne Park, on Saturday, June 2, by kind permission of the Duke of Northumberland.

It is the first time that the Alnwick club has hosted the annual rally since 2007.

The event is a day full of competitions for members of Northumberland Young Farmers.

Each year, the rally has a theme, and given the ties that Alnwick Castle and Northumberland Estates have to Harry Potter – with the historic fortress doubling up as Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the first two films – Alnwick Young Farmers has decided that the 2018 theme will be Potter in the Parks.

As part of this, the group has teamed up with the Northumberland Gazette to run a competition, for children to design the front cover of the event’s programme, which is based on the rally’s theme.

The contest is open to children under the age of 14 and must be submitted on paper, no larger than A5 in size, by Thursday, April 19.

Entries must be dropped off or posted to the Gazette office at 32 Bondgate Without, Alnwick, NE66 1PN, before the deadline.

The winner will be announced in the Gazette on Thursday, April 26, and will have their artwork on the front cover of the programme.

In 2007, the Gazette ran the same sort of competition, which was won by Kirsten Blackmore, then aged 10, featuring an image of Mickey Mouse holding a shovel. The theme that year was A Disney Adventure and the rally was staged at Easington Farm, Belford .

As part of the rally, Alnwick Young Farmers is offering sponsorship opportunities to local businesses and the club is looking for support.
