Alnwick trio shine at Northern Indoor Championships

The day got off to a good start with Lauren Brown and Finlay Telfer both doing well to finish as runners up in their high jump competitions.

In his first triple jump event Ollie Telfer competed well and narrowly missed a new club record by 1cm. He was also denied a medal after tying for third place with a jump of 8.95m because his second best jump was shorter than his rivals. However, he was happy enough with fourth place and vowed to do better next time.

Lauren improved her personal best by a massive 30cm in the long jump to win the girls event and set a new club record of 3.52m. Lauren had a successful day also establishing new club records in the shot put and high jump.

The three athletes produced some great performances, enjoyed competing in the warm indoor environment and had a great day out.

Parkruns

Alnwick Harriers had runners in five different parkruns on Saturday, January 30, with the quickest time coming down at the Beeston Parkrun in Nottingham, courtesy of Dan Leng. Dan ran the fastest 5k by a Harrier so far this year by clocking 18.40 to finish fifth.

Closer to home there were a large number of excellent performances at the Druridge Bay Parkrun. Jordan Rogerson ran well once again to finish third in a course pb of 19.33, whilst there were age category wins for David Henderson (male 55), David Barnes (male 45), Peter Embleton (male 60) and David Cooper (male 65).

Also well done to Justine Norman who was first female finisher for the third time.

There was also age category success for Richard Eastoe at Workington that morning, where he won the male 60 category in 22.23 by finishing 25th. Wife Gay was 68th in 26.12. Lorna Stephenson was in action at South Shields where she finished 143rd in 34.24 and Kirsty Steed was 319th at Durham in 41.16.

Later on that day Micky Aiston was the clubs sole representative in the Northern Cross Country Championships at Witton Park, Blackburn. On a very muddy course Micky was 596th in 1.12.53.
