Alnwick Sings to perform at the Sage

More than 200 singers from across the Alnwick area will be joining forces on one of the North East's most sough-after stages for a night of music on Saturday.

Over several years, a succession of concerts, held at the Alnwick Playhouse, have brought together choirs and other vocal ensembles from around the district under the banner Alnwick Sings.

Providing a showcase for local talent, the concerts proved to be highly successful.

In the second half the massed choirs, from the district, will come together under the musical direction of Peter Brown, to perform John Rutter’s Feel The Spirit – a suite of seven spirituals written for mezzo-soprano soloist, mixed choir and chamber orchestra.

It is an exciting, moving and often uplifting piece, telling the story of the plight of the hundreds of thousands of black Africans transported and enslaved during the 18th and 19th centuries in America.

The concert takes place at 7.30pm at the Sage.
