Alnwick school makes region's top 10

The Duchess's Community High School is ranked at ninth in the top state secondary schools in the region as part of the annual Sunday Times Parent Power, published in The Sunday Times and online this Sunday.

The guide, which can be found at http://www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/parentpower, contains the top 2,000 state and independent schools, ranked by their latest academic results, and searchable by postcode, town, local authority and name of school.

It says the percentage of Duchess's pupils gaining A* to B at A-Level last summer was 54.6, with 20 per cent notched up an A* or A at GCSE.

In tenth spot is King Edward VI School in Morpeth, with 52.7 per cent and 22 per cent.

The top performing state school is Durham Johnston Comprehensive School, with 76.4 per cent and 37.6 per cent.
