Over 200 pupils from Swansfield Park First School and The Duke’s Middle School joined forces to raise funds to build a toilet for a new nursery school in Mapalagama, Sri Lanka.
Despite soaring temperatures, the children chose to wear pyjamas and onesies to take on the challenge.
The event was organised by the Alnwick Rota Kids and followed their very successful fun run last summer, where they helped the Rotary Club of Alnwick to re-build the school in Mapalagama which had been destroyed by the tsunami.
The school was able to re-open in September and plans were set in motion to build a nursery school on the site.
The Rota Kids were keen to help and decided to set their target on building a proper toilet for the nursery children.
Similar events also took place at Lindisfarne Middle School and St Michael’s, which are also part of the Alnwick Rota Kids group.
