The work will be taking place at The Market Tavern, following Chris Hume's takeover of the premises towards the end of last year. Mr Hume, who has a wealth of experience in the catering and hospitality trade, has grand plans for the venue.

The Fenkle Street premises will reopen on Thursday, March 10, in its new guise as The Tavern Steak House and Lodge.

Prior to the closure, local band King For A Day will be performing a set of classic rock music from the past to the present. The group will be playing at the venue tomorrow from 9pm and entry is free.

The takeover of the Tavern has seen Chris return to his native Northumberland, having previously moved away from Alnmouth to build up three restaurant chains in Cheshire.
