An Alnwick man, who has been charged with attempting to meet a girl under the age of 16 following sexual grooming, appeared in court today.
Steven McCarthy, 46, from Alnwick, pleaded not guilty to the charge at Bedlington magistrates’ court. He now faces a trial at Newcastle Crown Court and is listed to appear next month.
A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: “At 5.49pm on Saturday, police received a report that a man had attempted to meet an underage girl for sex in Alnwick.
“Officers attended and arrested a man on suspicion of meeting a girl under the age of 16 following sexual grooming.
“Inquiries were carried out and police charged a 46-year-old man from Alnwick. His charge is ‘an adult attempting to meet a girl under 16 following sexual grooming’.”
