An Alnwick Harrier competing in the Boston Marathon has tweeted friends and family to reassure them he is safe.
David Hindmarsh, a self-confessed obsessive marathon runner, was taking part in the major event yesterday, which was plunged into tragedy after two large explosions at the final stretch of the run.
At least three people, including an eight-year-old boy, have been killed and more than 100 others have been injured.
The blasts took place in a crowd of spectators, just feet away from the finish line where hundreds of runners were completing the world’s oldest annual marathon.
David was unharmed.
After the explosions, he tweeted: ‘Just to say I’m safe in Boston. Craig (from Heaton) safe. John and Doug from Heaton also safe’.
