The attraction took the prize in the Outstanding Social Enterprise category at the North East Charity Awards. The Garden fought off competition from EveryDay and Impeller Assurance & Resilience Ltd to secure the award.

Earlier this year, The Garden was named as Large Visitor Attraction of the Year at the Northumberland Tourism Awards, organised by Northeast Press, including the Northumberland Gazette.

The attraction is also a finalist in the UK Social Enterprise Awards 2017, with the winners being announced in November.

After winning the accolade at the North East Charity Awards, Garden CEO Mark Brassell, said: “We were absolutely thrilled at winning the award as we were in very good company in a really competitive category.

“I could not have dreamed of winning a prestigious tourism award and charity award in the same year.

“It’s a testament to the fantastic team of staff and volunteers that dedicate themselves to making the Duchess of Northumberland’s vision a reality and positioning us as a valued member of the Alnwick community.”

The North East Charity Awards were staged at the end of last month at the Boiler Shop, in Newcastle, and were organised by The Journal and The Gazette on Teesside.
