Orchard activities

The Friends of Bullfield Community Orchard will be holding their annual general meeting alongside a day of activities on Sunday, July 17, at the Orchard, off Weavers Way, in Alnwick.

The AGM starts at noon and will be followed from 1pm by a whole afternoon of events and activities, including green woodworking, felting, bulb planting, activities for children and a demonstration beehive.

There will also be live music, poetry and a chance to buy local produce and refreshments.

The Orchard, which won the Best of Northumberland Green Champion Award in 2015, is home to a wide range of fruit and nut trees, soft fruit bushes, a wildflower area and an herb bed.

The site is open to all for play and recreation, especially to the community bordering onto this once neglected site.

Local people are also encouraged to pick fruit from the trees and bushes when it is ripe.

The site is maintained by volunteers, who hold several work days throughout the year, weeding, pruning and planting.

It offers a great opportunity for ‘hands-on’ learning and skill sharing.

The meeting and activities are free and open to everyone.

There will be a large marquee so we are covered, whatever the weather.

We hope to see you there.
