WORKS IN PROGRESS: The AGM of Alnwick Embroiderer’s Guild took place at the beginning of September.
Most of the previous committee was re-elected with the exception of vice-chairman as Joyce Ball wished to stand down and Helen Cowans was elected in her place, Vivien Boulton continues as chairman.
Reports were given by the chairman, treasurer and programme secretary.
Following the business part of the meeting members had the opportunity to display their work (often still in progress) of Olympic postcards and illuminated letters from the Luttrell Psalter workshop, catching up on news and enjoying a cup of tea or coffee.
The next meeting is on October 1, and will be a talk by Shirley Shaw entitled ‘tribal women’s attire.’
Shirley will also bring several examples from her wide-ranging collection of clothes from many countries.
Last year members enjoyed admiring and examining children’s clothing which Shirley brought to show us.
This time we are looking forward to seeing what women wear in other countries and cultures and, in particular, how the clothes are decorated.
The meeting will take place in St Michael’s Church Hall at 2pm. Visitors are very welcome. Knowledge and expertise are not necessary, just an interest in embroidery in general. We look forward to seeing you there.
