Alnwick Centre WI were pleased to welcome guests from Alnmouth and Brizlee WI to their November meeting.
The business part of the afternoon was brief, giving members only dates and times of future events; an invitation from Sainsburys to their cat walk on December 4, our next coffee historical to Lilburns, December 5, 10.30am, organised by Margaret Gardener, lunch at the Oaks Hotel, December 11, and the screening of the national AGM in Newcastle next June.
Avril Huntly entertained all with her lovely singing voice and her selection of songs.
She began with local Northumbrian songs and moved on to those of war times and some that were just her favourites.
We laughed, we almost cried and we joined in some of the choruses. Her comments and insights into the lyrics were most entertaining. We all enjoyed her singing.
A delicious buffet tea was served during the interval giving members time to chat to their guests and to each other.
Janis Crooke won the Northumbrian Federation WI cookbook, printed for the centenary year, in the raffle. Margaret Gardener won the competition.
The members who had been knitting hats for the Sailors Mission were persuaded to bring them to the front.
The photograph of them actually wearing the hats caused much laughter.
The next meeting will be a lunch at the Oaks Hotel at 12.30pm on December 11.
