Alnmouth victory lifts team out of the danger zone in Division 1

It was a case of rain stopped play for the majority of sides in the Northumberland & Tyneside Cricket League at the weekend.

The majority of Saturday’s games started, but many were abandoned half way through after the region was hit by thunder and lightning and heavy rain.

Alnmouth & Lesbury 1sts achieved a much-needed win when they beat Consett 1sts by five wickets.

Consett batted first and only managed to put on 95-6 with Stuart Graham their top scorer on 36. Nicholas Denton took 3-9 for Alnmouth, who in reply took 24 overs to chase it down with Tom Vickers on 31 and Edward Brunton on 28 not out.

Alnwick 1sts saw their home game against Blyth abandoned because of rain.

Blyth put on 55-5 with opener Andy Clark on 28 not out before the elements stopped play.

Tillside 1sts went down by six wickets at home to Leadgate 1sts.

The Etal side made 168-9 with Ross Hindmarsh on 27, Gareth Hill and Stuart Wright on 23 and Jamie Pick on 22.

Harry Lovell took 3-8 for Leadgate, who in reply took 39 overs to chase it down on 170-4 with James Radcliffe on 63 and Joe Banks on 51.

Warkworth 1sts saw rain stop play in their Division 3 match against Berwick 1sts. Warkworth were 43-3 after 18 overs before play was halted.

Tillside 2nds went down to a seven wicket defeat away to Percy Main 2nds. Openers Keith Bickerton hit 29 and Law Atkinson 27 as Tillside made 97 all out with Steven Patterson having a good spell with the ball, claiming 5-24.

In their innings, Percy Main (99) chased it down in less than 20 overs with Andrew Beer on 44 not out and Alex Young 22 not out at the close of play.

Alnwick 2nds had a one wicket win away to Blagdon 2nds.

Alex Higgins hit 85 as Blagdon posted 177-7 in 45 overs with two wickets each for Matthew Straker, Alan Straker and Andrew Stewart.

In reply, Alnwick took 44 overs to reach 179-8 with Stewart on 52 and Alan Straker on 30. Jamie Case took 3-51.

Warenford faced Bedlington 2nds at home when the visitors batted first and put on 162-6 in 40 overs with Bradley Purvis on 53, Ryan Kirkup on 34 and Calum Easton on 33.

There were two wickets each for Michael Thompson and Tony Potts, but then the rain came, with the thunder and lightning, and the game was abandoned with Waren jnable to bat.

Wooler’s home game against Monkseaton 1sts was abandoned. The Glendale side had put on 141-7 with Ian Clarke on 41 and Andrew Aitchison on 35. Adam Doyle took 3-19.

Embleton’s game away to Ulgham 2nds was cancelled.

Howick’s game at home to Stobswood 2nds was abandoned because of rain.

Stuart Shanks hit 74 as Stobswood put on 204-4 in 40 overs before the elements intervened.

And Warkworth 2nds’ home game against Berwick 2nds was also abandoned, but not before the visitors put on 192-8 with Lee Mark on 59, Martin Hush on 40 and Jay Baverstock on 36.

Rock went down to a five wicket home defeat at the hands of Kirkley. Rock batted first and with Andrew Bottomer hitting a top score of 75 they managed to put on 189-4 with James Kelly on 64 not out.

Christian Rowe then hit 63 for Kirkley as they replied with 190-5 in 34 overs with the main support coming from Mark Moody on 38 and Andrew Horner on 31 not out. There were two wickets each for Kevin Wilson and Bottomer.
