Ian McAllister said: “In the past 12 months, I’ve done a bit of running. I turned 40 and thought I needed a hobby, so running became it.

“Quite quickly, it became apparent that I was heading towards 400 race miles, not to mention more than 1,000 extra training miles.

“From a standing start of zero this time last year, I have now completed two ultra distances, five full marathons, one duathlon, nine half-marathons, one 10k run and six Parkruns.

“I have been doing all of this to raise money for the Newcastle Child Bereavement Unit and through various events and some amazingly generous people am sitting at around £4,000. All the fours this year!

“Anyway, after last weekend’s Kielder Marathon, I am now sitting at 398.4 miles, so what better a way to push me over the 400 mark than with a Parkrun at Druridge Bay on November 5?”
